Are you passionate about Sligo’s rich history, culture, and natural beauty? Do you enjoy sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm with others? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to become a Tour Guide in the historic town of Sligo, Ireland.
This opportunity may suit an independent Tour Guide looking for additional tour work or a student or active retiree or those looking to change career and pursue tour guiding as a profession. Training can be provided for a suitable candidate.
Responsibilities:
As a Tour Guide in Sligo, your primary responsibilities will include:

Conducting Guided Tours: Lead informative and engaging tours of Sligo, covering a variety of historical sites.

Sharing Local Knowledge: Provide in-depth information about the town’s history, culture, folklore, and natural landmarks, making each tour a memorable and educational experience for visitors.

Ensuring Guest Safety: Maintain a safe and organized tour environment, adhering to safety guidelines and ensuring the well-being of tour participants.

Answering Questions: Be prepared to answer questions from tour participants and adapt your commentary to the interests and needs of the group.

Promoting Local Businesses: Knowledge of Sligo town and County. Suggest and promote local restaurants, shops, and other visitors attractions to enhance the overall visitor experience.

Storytelling: Utilise storytelling techniques to make history come alive and captivate the imagination of tour attendees.

Customer Service: Offer excellent customer service by being polite, approachable, and accommodating to guests’ needs.
Skills:
- Deep knowledge and passion for Irish and local Sligo history, culture, and natural surroundings.
- Strong communication and public speaking skills.
- Ability to engage and connect with diverse groups of people.
- A friendly and approachable personality.
- Reliability and punctuality.
- Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus.
- Experience in tourism or as a tour guide desirable.
- Be comfortable with using technology, taking photographs, social media, messaging apps, tickets and booking software.
- Qualification in Tour Guiding, History or Archaeology desirable.
